Barton College

About

Barton College is an accredited four-year, co-educational college located in Wilson, North Carolina. Barton College was founded by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1902 under the name Atlantic Christian College, and the name was changed in 1990 to Barton College to honor Barton Stone, a founder of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Providing students with a strong academic focus and opportunities for leadership development, Barton unites its smaller size with an intentional application of collaborative learning in every aspect of the students’ college experience. The Teacher Education Program offers traditional pathways to earning a teaching license as part of a four-year degree program, master's level programs in School Administration and Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) licensure, as well as opportunities for teacher assistants to teachers, residency licensure programs in Birth-Kindergarten Education, Elementary Education, Special Education: General Curriculum and Special Education: Adapted Curriculum. We offer rigorous academics within a supportive environment, NCAA Division II athletics, and support for beginning teachers. Be Barton Bold!

Deanna Ciampa

The Barton College School of Education is more like a family than it is a series of classes. The relationships that I’ve built with my peers and professors have created a large support system as I begin my career. Everything I’ve learned at Barton College has been real world applicable, and the hands-on learning from my classes was invaluable!
